pie for a good cause

if you can’t bake, and you’re wondering where to order your pies for thanksgiving, check out food and friends’ slice of life program. the charity, which provides food delivery services to clients with serious illness, is teaming up with bread and chocolate for a pie sale to benefit food and friends. offerings include apple pie, pumpkin pie, and hazelnut chocolate torte.

Proceeds from the pies will go toward food and friends’ holiday meal programs, helping them to provide thanksgiving dinner to more than 3,500 individuals in the washington, dc area.

the elusive search for good vegan key lime pie

key lime is one of my favorite types of pie (pumpkin being my other favorite.) as such, it breaks my heart that i’ve been unable to find a satisfactory vegan version of key lime pie.

this weekend, i had this:

the best of the contenders so far (thank you, sticky fingers.)
it was tangy, and had a better consistency than others, but the crust was bland and more suited for a fruit pie rather than a cheesecaky-type dessert.
the vegan claimed it tasted like pudding in a crust. i wouldn’t go as far as that, but it’s clear that my search is not over.
sigh.
