shut yer piehole and i just returned from a weekend at the outer banks, which was good for our minds, but not so much for our dessert blogging.
things looked promising on the way down. right before the carolina border, we ran into the mecca of convenience snackfoods:wawa.
the store was huge and was offering FREE COFFEE. however, coffee was not foremost on our mind. instead, we headed straight for the tastykake rack.
i bought some delicious pie:

ms. cake lover, however, went for the bonanza. she stockpiled kandy kakes galore:

and from there, our dessert outings were pretty much downhill. the vegan custard place we tried to visit in norfolk was closed. the mexican restaurant where we dined ran out of flan by the time we got there, leaving us with some meager sopapillas and a strange fried ice cream containing raisins. and we ate so much at an italian restaurant we didn’t have (blashphemy!) room for dessert.
on our last day, however, we tried the fantastic seaside vegetarian in kitty hawk. if this were a non-dessert blog, i might rave about how good the food was, but we’ll simply focus on this:

yes, that’s a mini white-chocolate key lime tart. good enough for two. all agreed that it was delicious – the key lime hit the perfect balance – not too tart, not too sweet. we were kind of perplexed, however, as to where the white chocolate fit in. i felt like i tasted hints of it in the meringue topping, but others said they detected it in the filling.
at any rate, it was the perfect way to cap a vacation.
Now that’s just gratuitous.
(I can’t seem to look away)
we specialize in gratuitous pictures on this website. particularly gratuitious cheesecake shots.
