Sorbet in-the-shell a la Costco

Where do they find pineapples that small?

Er, just kidding about being low fat.

Er, just kidding about being low fat.

I used to think that these in-the-fruit-shell sorbets were the domain of fancy Italian restaurants, marveling at the labor that must have been involved in the process. Well, even though these are now a lot more widely available, it doesn’t make them any less special. And damn if this brand from Costco isn’t the tastiest one around. If you’re lactose intolerant, note that there’s cream in these (which is cheating if you call yourself a sorbet, but they’re so good I’m willing to sacrifice a Lactaid).

These sorbet portions vary a lot in size depending on the flavor/shell they’re in. My favorite was mango-orange: sweet and tangy, with the texture of ice cream. The product is marketed as low fat. But read the disclaimer in the lower LH corner.
